General points about the workshops and planning your day
Evening and after-school concerts
All the workshops are designed to be performable and for this reason it can sometimes be an attractive proposition to stage a concert for parents. This could take place after school or even in the evening. It gives family and friends an opportunity to support a school event and watch their children in action. Please ask about this option as all packages are flexible according to each school’s individual needs and interests.
Making The Most Of Your School Instruments (Training/Support)
If you have a music specialist or member of staff who might want further training or input on multicultural music workshops, my new book ‘We Love To Party!’ may be of interest. It features almost all of my workshops in an easy to understand format, along with an accompanying cd for classroom use, and is designed specifically to offer more ideas on how to make the most of the instruments you already own within a world music context.
I am happy to offer a staff training workshop/inset as a support to the book. This would involve looking at all your current instruments, exploring musical ideas using them, and even helping with repairs and upgrading if required. This session could take place after school on the day of a visit for a reduced cost if I am already there with you.
Additional Services
Please ask about the following additional services that can also be provided.

Plan Your Day
In preparation for your World Music Day, choose from any of the following workshops currently available.
In order that new workshops can be added Jim regularly takes himself on training courses in various world music styles. Two recent trips have been the exhilarating ‘Mugenkyo Taiko Drumming’ weekend in Scotland (www.mugenkyo.com) and two week-long residential courses in the beautiful peak district on ‘Afro-Brazilian Percussion Studies’ (www.ovm.co.uk) Both great fun and highly informative and challenging! Check out the photos and the websites of these two fabulous companies. |
