Presenting the company
World Music Workshops is now in its third year of delivering exciting and inspiring world music performances and workshops in schools across the South East of England. Led by Jim Bernardin, children from Foundation through to Key Stage 3 and their teachers can experience and take part in music from many of the world’s most exciting and exotic places. Choose a workshop for your children from South America, Africa, the Caribbean, Asia, or Europe and the USA.
“Every school in the country should have this experience.” OfSted 2007
The instruments used in Jim’s workshops are his own beautifully crafted ethnic instruments, from the giant Oriental tam tam to the Caribbean steel pans, African drums, Brazilian samba instruments, xylophones, a marimba and Indian dhol drums to name a few.
Music learned in the workshops can be reinforced through live performance, either as part of a school show or an evening concert for friends and family.
For music coordinators and classroom teachers who are keen to do follow-up work after a visit, Jim’s brand new book with accompanying cd entitled ‘We Love To Party’ is now available to buy. The book is especially designed to enable teachers, with their class, to reproduce a wide range of world music styles on existing school instruments, without spending a penny on new ones.
In conjunction with the book, an inset training session for all staff on ‘Creating multicultural music with your children’ is well worth considering, perhaps as part of ‘World Music Day’ package or as a separate teambuilding or training solution.
The World Music Workshops ethos is all about inspiring children, empowering teachers, spreading enthusiasm for music and above all, giving children the chance to be musicians and to create wonderful multicultural music in a positive and fun environment.
“Worth every penny and more! An outstanding and highly valuable experience for all the children. We would thoroughly recommend this vibrant musical event to any school."
