From the youngest to the oldest child, everyone can participate in Brazilian music, the most well known style being Samba. There are a number of other great other styles too, including the Samba Reggae and Baion from Northern Brazil and the Argentinean tango. So there’s no end of possibilities.
Foundation and Key Stage 1
For the younger children it is a wonderful opportunity to learn and play basic rhythms and phrases together on traditional instruments. This includes ‘call and response’ phrasing, copying and playing to a pulse together.
Key Stage 2
In key stage 2 the call and response phrasing is much more challenging. Simple and more complex rhythms are taught and layered with various Latin American instruments to create the unmistakable carnival sound.
