Worthing Steel Band and Blue Steel

Worthing Steel Band has been building a local profile steadily since 2012, it's members learning and performing under Jim Bernardin's direction. We now have two adult bands, the original Worthing Steel and Blue Steel. The latter formed from the interest and profile generated by Worthing Steel Band. They have learnt and performed together now for around two years alongside the main band. Now, both bands are practicing and playing together more frequently and jointly form the Worthing Steel Collective, the umbrella name for our bands.

Rehearsals take place on Monday evenings in Ferring, located just outside Worthing. Additional practices, lessons and workshops are arranged prior to specific gigs, along with workshops to provide new players a chance to try it out.

Gigs we've enjoyed in the past years, or are looking forward to soon, include the Worthing WI, Pulborough Rugby Club Fundraising Party, Phoenix Group 20th Anniversary Party, The Ferring Fair, Graffham Festival grand finale, HRM The Queen's 90th Birthday celebration in Arundel, Downview Primary Proms In The Playground, Worthing Business Circle Summer Barbecue, Ferring Nursery Fair, Worthing 10Km Run, PanJam with Sussex Steel, The Arundel Festival, Worthing Carnival, Worthing Pier Bonfire Night celebrations, One Love Festival, and a number of Caribbean themed fundraising nights.

This year in March 2018 we had a wonderful experience staging a fundraising evening for Education Africa, and hosting a visit from a group of African children and their teachers to perform alongside and with us. It was a memorable evening, held at Chatsmore High School.

Following on from the success of our own band social nights, we can now offer THEMED Caribbean events as an entertainment package. These are non-profit-making nights providing cocktail steel pan music on arrival, full steel band for dancing, authentic Caribbean food from our expert caterers and band members Nadia and Mark, and a venue to suit the numbers. We are happy to organise everything and leave ticket sales to you for your own clients or party. Together we can share a wonderful tropical evening of food and entertainment among friends. Because we offer these as non-profit ventures, this offers clients an excellent fundraising opportunity for your chosen charity. We have raised money for the Worthing Churches Homeless Project and the Anthony Nolan Trust.

Whether you need a full band, a small group or a solo steel pan player, Worthing Steel Band can deliver. Please contact Jim via this website on or visit our other website for more information.

Earlier in 2016 we recorded two CD's with the help of Christopher Hurd of Ivy Arch Studios as our sound engineer. Both CD's were recorded in one day at Goring Primary School. The CDs are £5 each and any excess funds goes towards maintaining the steel pans and other band expenses.
